WINDY JIM STAKES

One of the great traditions of DOMDAY returns with the "WINDY JIM" Stakes.   Named in honour of the former 6 year old gelding champion of Woodbine, owned by El Cid Stables.  Windy Jim ruled the Finger Lakes racetrack in Ithaca, NY and then Woodbine back in the late '70's when purchased at auction by a consortium of young Ten Men'rs.

The WINDY JIM is a champion horse race sponsored by the TEN MEN CORPORATION.  The history of the Windy Jim acquisition by El Cid Stables is told in detail on the Domday Tales podcast epsisode # 2.  Many older Rexdalians can still picture vividly the horse being walked up Highway 27 that summer day in 1978, and then busting loose for a romp down the valley of the Humber River.

The gang won big in 2009 with Giant Margarita, and then again in 2022 with Girly The Butcher in the 5th at Monmouth Park.  Post Covid 2023 was not a good year with the forest fires looming overhead, but in 2024 the group returned with a colossal effort at the betting windows.  Proud Ronin won the featured Windy Jim Stakes.

If you have a few hundred bucks to throw away then this is the place to do it with all your lifelong buddies.

This year $46 goes in the group pot this year (DDC 46) and will be administered by Frankie T, Min, Babe and Donnie, so kiss it goodbye now!  If we win big it is usually a split pot with half to Sick Kids and half to the bar tab at Remos later that night.

This year's edition of The Windy Jim Stakes will run at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday, June 27th.  Post time for the first race on the card is 1:10 p.m., with The Windy Jim Stakes currently scheduled for the 4th race on the card with an approximate 2:50 p.m. post time.

As usual, bring lots of cabbage ... more than you'll even dream you might need as the action is fast and furious, and the beverage stands are of course OPEN and usually quite busy.
